MANSFIELD, TX -- It all comes down to this, 60 minutes will decide who will be crowned the next TCHC Champions. After an incredible 7-1 win over ETBU Friday night, the Miners met Texas A&M in the TCHC Championship game.
Four minutes into the first, Jayden Ritchie feeds Carlo Wittor who shoots and scores off the deflection of Reynolds glove, putting the Miners on the board for the first goal of the game. The Miners keep pushing as Reynolds can’t grab the loose puck and Fabian Perez gets it passed him to increase the lead to 2-0.
The puck drops for the second period and Austin Simpson stamps his name in the championship game and scores a power-play goal on a one-timer making the game 3-0, 7:44 into the period. On the penalty kill, Kevin Duncan feeds it to Carlo Wittor who makes the pass to Austin Simpson which is redirected by the Aggies. On the redirect, Aggies send the puck passed the line and the Miners get their fourth goal of the game.
With just over two minutes remaining in the period, Matt Sanca beats Reynolds on the rebound scoring the Miners second power-play goal of the game, giving the Miners a 5-0 lead at the buzzer.
Heading to the final stanza, only 20 minutes stood between the Miners and the championship title. The Aggies came out trying to cut the deficit but Angus Campbell -- making his second start in two days -- would hold tight for the Miners between the pipes making daring save after save. Dominik Taras scores off a feed from Matt Sanca pushing the Miners lead to 6-0, 4:45 into the final frame.
Texas A&M finally gets one back as Kyle Mills beat Duncan and Campbell to the back of the net bringing the Aggies within five goals. Austin Simpson sees Dominic Foggia is open near the faceoff zone, feeds him a pass and Foggia scores on the one-timer, giving the Miners a 7-1 lead.
With just under four minutes to go in the third, John-Luke Prystayko takes Campbell’s place in net for the Miners. Aggies are called for too many men on the ice and the Miners use the man advantage as Pablo Duarte scores.
At the buzzer, Miners beat the Aggies 8-1, winning their second TCHC Championship in three years. A win in the championship game gives the Miners an automatic bid to the ACHA Western Regional Tournament, Feb. 28-March 2 in Tempe, Arizona.
