El PASO – This season the Miners have had an unconventional game schedule that includes back to back weekends of play followed by a week off. With a week off with no games, the Miners used that time to tweak the few things that can help them improve on the ice. “The goal remains the same -- develop great habits and improve every day,” said Coach Herman. “The extra time gives the guys a chance to get caught up on their academics but at the same time improve on the little things we need to get better at.”
Currently the Miners are 8-1-1 overall this season (4-1-1 conference) which places UTEP in second place in the South Division of TCHC. But before UTEP continues their quest for the top slot, the Miners will close out their non-conference schedule with a pair of road games in Albuquerque against the University of New Mexico Lobos.
Puck drops for game one Friday night at 8:00 p.m. MDT and game two will follow Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. MDT. Both games will be played at Outpost Ice Arena. You can watch live on the Lobo Hockey Network

Miners vs Lobos
The Miners have met the Lobos a total of 14 times in three season, accumulating a 7-7 overall record. At home the Miners hold a 5-3 winning record against the Lobos and a 2-4 record on the road.
During the Miners inaugural season (2015-16), the Miners and Lobos played eight games with the Lobos having the upper hand in seven of those eight games. The 2016-17 season saw a different outcome and the Miners swept the Lobos in four games including an 11-3 win at home. Although the two teams did not play each other last season they hope to continue the rivalry for years to come.
Two weeks ago the Lobos came to El Paso and come out on top with a 7-5 win in game one on Saturday, October 20 and a 11-3 win on Sunday, October 21. It was a physical weekend that would see 77 penalty minutes and 26 goals. Forward Austin Simpson, scored a career high 4 goals in game two, his third hat trick of the season.
“I think it will be another hard fought battle. Both teams played physical and I don’t expect anything less at their rink in front of their fans,” said Coach Herman when asked about playing the Lobos on the road. “We were fortunate to get 2 wins, but we will be hungry for 2 more.”
