Campbell gets the start in net and Austin Simpson records another hat trick in 8-2 win against Texas State

Austin, TX -- The puck dropped Friday night and every second of the next sixty minutes on the ice would set the tone for the Miners in conference play. Forward Austin Simpson lead the Miners to a 8-2 final score against the Texas State Bobcats.

Matt Sanca didn't wait long to put the Miners on the board, scoring a goal fifty-five seconds into the 1st period, assisted by twin brother Jon Sanca and Noah Vanderzwan. Nearly a minute later, Carlo Wittor scores and the Miners have a two goal lead against the Bobcats in under two minutes of play. Following a couple of UTEP penalties, Texas State gets one by Campbell bringing the Bobcats within one goal of the Miners. Jayden Ritchie connects with Carlo Wittor and the Miners would lead by two goals at the buzzer.

The second period would see plenty of minutes spent in the penalty box by both teams. Austin Simpson scores on a breakaway and opens the scoring for the second period.

A fight breaks out behind the Miners net, between UTEP's Jake Kopinski and Texas State's Connor Roche, resulting in both players being ejected from the game. A couple of minor penalties are handed to Jayden Ritchie and Scott Brownrigg for roughing, while Carlo Wittor is called for head contact resulting in a five minute major and is also ejected from the game.

Game play resumes and Jayden Ritchie scores the 5th Miner goal of the game assisted by Austin Simpson. Texas State scores late in the second period but the Miners would keep their 5-2 lead at the end of the period.

Back for the final frame, the Miners add three more goals to their tally, goals were scored by Austin Simpson and Matt Sanca. Holding a strong six goal lead over the Bobcats, the Miners would win, 8-2, improving to 3-0 overall in the season.
