Miners head into final home stand of the fall semester 8-3 in conference play.
Heading into the final home stand of the fall semester the Miners sit at 9-8 overall (8-3 in conference play). Currently the Miners are in 4th place in TCHC, behind Texas A&M, UT Longhorns and the Dallas Baptist Patriots.
Following an 0-3 start in the season, the Miners have gone on to win 8 of their last games played against conference opponents. “It took the guys a bit of time to get used to playing with each other and in different roles, but the team is getting stronger each week. It’s been a complete team effort and it’s been exciting to see the growth of the team from the start of the season,” comments Coach Herman.
In the last eight conference games, UTEP has found the back of the net at least three times, and three of those games they posted five or more goals. In four of those games, the Miners won in overtime.
Freshman forward, Dominik Taras, has shown a solid performance in the first half of the season leading the Miners with 27 points (15 G, 12 A). Coach Herman had this to say about Dominik, “He works hard at his craft in the offensive zone. His line mates, Matt and Jon Sanca, have really come together as a line. I think what impresses me the most about Dominik, is that he is working on all aspects of his game – especially defensively. He wants to be on the ice at all times of the game. It’s been nice to see his game evolve to a complete player.”
The season is far from over and the Miners still have plenty of tough games ahead but the Miners will continue to work hard towards defending their conference title.
Next weekend, the Miners will host the University of North Texas Mean Green in a two-game series December 2nd and 3rd. The Mean Green are 4-3 in the season. This will be the only meeting between both teams during the regular season.
