RECAP: Miners sweep Patriots

Miners improve to 6-3, in conference play.

El Paso, TX – Coming off a successful weekend at home the Miners hit the road to face off against the Dallas Baptist Patriots in a two game series.
The puck dropped for game one and Jon Sanca opened the scoring for the Miners with a goal 1 minute into the 1st period. As Quincy Childress is whistled for cross checking, the Patriots would capitalize with a power play goal to tie the game. With 5 minutes remaining in the 1st, Dominik Taras assisted by Matt Sanca and Quincy Childress gives the Miners their second lead of the game.
Back for the 2nd period, the Miners would score 2 goals to increase their lead, 4-1. Goals were scored by Matt Sanca and Kevin Duncan.
The Patriots sneak one passed Alek Lazarski early in the 3rd period to pull within 2 goals of the Miners. With the help of Dominik Taras, Noah Vanderzwan scores the final goal of the game to put the Miners up 5-2 with 5 minutes to go in the game. The Miners would keep the lead and win game one.
With an earlier start on Saturday, once again the Miners would kick things off quickly with a goal scored by Dominik Taras, 1 minute into the 1st period. The Patriots score and the game is tied as the team’s head to the locker room.
The Patriots would score first midway through the 2nd period and take the lead. Not for long as Dominik Taras scores on the power play, his 2nd of the game, and ties the game at 2. With 30 seconds left in the 2nd, the Patriots score and take the lead at the buzzer.
Late in the 3rd period, Dominik Taras scores to tie the game and completes the hat trick. Both teams are unable to score and the game goes into overtime. Alek Lazarski dives and Dallas Baptist scores. Shortly after its waved no goal as the net was knocked off prior to the goal being scored. Noah Vanderzwan scores on the breakaway and the Miners win 4-3.
The Miners improve to 6-3 in conference play, 6-5 overall.
