Miners Sweep Icejacks

EL PASO, TX – For the second straight week of non-conference play the Miners played host to the Northern Arizona (NAU) Ice Jacks for Pink Out the Rink & Stick It To Cancer Weekend, in support of breast cancer awareness month.
NAU was first to score early in the 1st period. But the Miners would answer back quickly with a power play goal from Jeramy Rezaeepour, assisted by Jorge Duenas and Lukas Znosko. His 7th goal of the season.
The Miners would control the 2nd period and score 3 goals, back to back goals from Matt Sanca and Josh Baeza.
Matt Sanca would open the scoring in the 3rd period with his 3rd goal of the night, and record his second hat trick of the season. NAU would get the final goal of the night but the Miners would hold their 3 goal lead and win the game.
Returning Saturday night for Game 2, the Miners hit the ice with sticks taped in pink in support of breast cancer awareness month. Getting passed NAU’s goalie, Matt Sanca would score first for the Miners, his 4th goal of the weekend. With no response from NAU the Miners headed to the locker room leading by 1 goal.
Lukas Znosko adds to the Miner lead with a goal 8 minutes into the 2nd period and puts the Miners up 2-0. The 2nd period would see plenty of time spent in the penalty box by both teams.
With Mack Hollis in the box for 2 mins the Ice Jacks go on the power play. But, Lukas Znosko scores a shorthanded goal with the help of Jeramy Rezaeepour and the Miners lead by 3. Zackaree Lopez scores the first goal of the night for the Ice Jacks followed by another goal by Trent Boice. With less than 6 minutes remaining in the 3rd the Miners lead by 1 goal. With the attempt of making up the deficit NAU pulls their goalie. Brett Bloor capitalizes on the empty net and scores the final goal of the night to put the Miners up 4-2 over the Ice Jacks.
Now 9-1 in the season (5-1 in conference), the Miners head out on the road to San Antonio, Texas to play the Texas State Bobcats in a two game series starting Saturday October 29th.
