Over the next few weeks, Minershockey.com will feature each of our incoming freshmen leading up to the 2016-17 season. Today’s Freshmen Spotlight features center Brett Bloor from Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
Coach Herman on the addition of Brett, “Brett is going to be a great addition to the club. We’ll look to him to be a strong center for us next season playing both ends of the rink. He’ll be a key face-off guy in big situations. He’s an all-around player and will add depth to our lineup immediately.”

Why did you choose UTEP?
I chose UTEP because it was the perfect blend in my mind of a schooling atmosphere and experience as well as a great hockey playing experience.
What are you looking forward to most about coming to UTEP?
There are a million things I’m looking forward to in coming to UTEP but if i had to choose one it would be looking forward to the new living experience of being a student-athlete in a whole new world compared to what I’m used to.
What do you know about UTEP and El Paso?
UTEP is a well-recognized school and El Paso is a very nice city with gorgeous mountain views. Also, it gets 200+ days of sun a year.
Tell us something interesting about Brett?
I love a lot of things entertainment, mostly music and movie, I really enjoy watching great movies or listening to amazing music.
Who did you idolize growing up?
Growing up I have always idolized my parents who were able to give me and my sisters all the opportunities in life and in sports, so we could all reach our goals.
Which NHL player(s) do you model your game after?
I model my game after great leaders and two way forwards that can produce such as, Pavel Datsuk or Jonathan Toews. I also look for players with similar strengths to mine, like speed, for example John Tavares.
