Forward Carlo Wittor is no stranger to the Sun City.
Following an impressive stint with the local junior team -- the El Paso Rhinos -- and a full season with the Miners under his belt, no one can deny Wittor has put together quite the resume. For the second time in 24 months, Wittor can call himself a Champion.
The 5-foot-11 forward from Ludwigsburg, Germany helped the Miners win their second Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference Championship. Scoring 47 goals during the regular season then following up with four goals during the TCHC Playoffs.
Midway through the first period on September 21, 2018, Wittor scored his first goal as a Miner -- giving UTEP an eight-goal lead. Fifty goals later, the German forward would lead the TCHC in goals scored.
His impressive goal total would also break a club record making him the first Miner to score 50-plus goals in a single season. Out of 28 games played, only four times did Wittor not find the back of the net.
Seven times this season, Wittor scored three or more goals alluding to including T-1st for most hat tricks in a season his list of accolades. Of those seven times, on Nov. 30 against Dallas Baptist University Wittor tallied six goals to become the first Miner to score six goals in a single game. Out of 51 goals, four were game-winning goals, six were power-play goals and four were short-handed goals.
While Wittor can be depended on to help put the Miners on the board, the forward also plays a roll in helping others find the back of the net as well. With 58 helpers last season, Wittor ended with a career-high eight assists, Jan. 19, against the University of North Texas.
