Miners fall short in first round of ACHA Regionals

TEMPE — Walking into to Oceanside Arena the Miners checked off another item on their season to do list, make it back to the ACHA Western Regional Tournament.
The puck dropped and the Miners quickly took control, playing aggressively in the offensive zone. Outshooting the Aggies, the Miners keep things simple taking shots on net trying to find an opportunity.
Beating Angus Campbell on the rush, Aggies tip one in and score the first goal of the contest. Shortly later, the Aggies tally their second and take a 2-0 lead. Carlo Wittor feeds the puck to Dominic Foggia in front of the net and tallies the first goal for the Miners, cutting the Aggie lead down to one goal. With 45 seconds remaining in the first, Aggies score and the Miners will sit with a two-goal deficit at the buzzer.
Back for the middle frame, Utah State scores 53 seconds into the period and the Aggies increasing their lead to three goals. Pushing to get back into the game, Kevin Duncan scores on the one-timer off a pass from Noah Vanderzwan bringing the score to 4-2 with 11:50 to go. Austin Simpson lays out a pass for Jayden Ritchie in front of the net who tips it in and brings the Miners within one with 5:49 remaining in the second.
The puck drops for the final stanza and Austin Simpson finds the back of the net to tie the game at four goals apiece. With 3:41 to go in third Aggies score on a controversial play and take the lead and then follow up with a second goal ten seconds later taking a two-goal lead with 3:27 left in the contest. The Miners have multiple opportunities but the puck won’t go and fall to the Aggies 6-4.
The Miners end their season 25-3-1.
